Summit PD to Hold Annual Bike Auction on Saturday

The bicycles the Summit Police Department puts up for auction every year are part of a collection of abandoned bikes that police collect. The general rule is that if no one picks up their bike after six months it becomes eligible for auction.

It's a good way to pick up an inexpensive bicycle, if you're looking. Bids last year ranged from $1 to over $150.

Summit will hold the Bicycle Auction this Saturday in the Police Garage at City Hall. The garage is accessible by following the ramp in the City Hall parking lot. Potential bidders can take a look at the available bikes from to 9a.m. to 10a.m.

At 10 a.m. the bidding will start.  The police department is accepting cash and checks as payment. No credit cards. Proper ID is a must if paying by check, and all winning bidders must leave with their bikes.

A total of 13 bicycles were auctioned off last year raising a total of $726.
