In order to adapt to the challenges faced by high schools during the pandemic, this year's Rising Star Awards was very different from the past where four evaluators would attend the 100 participating schools musicals and nominate seven in over 20 performing, directing, and technical categories including Best Overall Production of a Musical.
This year, schools submitted three minute video clips in only four performing categories: Best Actor, Best Actress, Large Ensemble, and Small Ensemble. No directing or technical categories were included. Awards were also given for Inclusion and Access, Student Achievement and Outstanding Educator.
