Summit Resident Urges Council, Residents to Take Action Against Helipad

It certainly is no surprise to the informed of Overlook’s appeal to NJ DOT based on DOT’s overrides in 2012. It has been disappointing to see the lack of a real action plan by Mayor & Council to oppose Overlook. While I support the current resolution, many of us fear that it is too little too late. The City Solicitor should advise DOT in no uncertain terms that the City of Summit does not accept NJDOT’s jurisdiction in this matter and should DOT support Overlook’s appeal, the City will join in with other communities and challenge DOT up to the Supreme Court if necessary. There should be no mincing of words here.

The Council should also restore the original Helipad Ordinance language to include proximity restrictions to residential areas and our schools. I have advocated for years that a stronger ordinance should provide greater strength in what could be a protracted legal process. 

Lastly, you can help. While this is a busy time of year, the citizens of Summit may submit written comments to DOT up until January 8th. It must be in the form of US mail. Please take a few moments to write to:
