SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit High School varsity sailing team competed in the Mid-Atlantic Silver Fleet Championship hosted by Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland last weekend earning first and second place finishes in the second day of competition.

Summit earned a berth for this regatta based on its finish at the spring qualifying event on March 30 in Toms River. Summit was one of 18 teams from high schools located from northern Virginia to New York State competing at Washington College on the Chester River. The team completed 32 races over two days.

After the first day of sailing and driven by top finishes by A fleet skipper Sean Groskoph and crew Malcolm Harrison, and B fleet skipper Sophie Lusty and crew Mia Chmelar, Summit was in sixth place overall. A judgement with a penalty from the start of the second A fleet race, however, caused the team to drop to twelfth place in the standings.

The lineup for day two had Harrison moving from A fleet crew to replace Lusty, who was unavailable to compete on Sunday, as B fleet skipper with Chmelar remaining as crew.

Freshman Jack Greengrass stepped into the A fleet crew position sailing with Groskoph.
