Summit Schools Closed Monday, And Other Town Snow Cancelations

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit schools will be closed (and not remote) on Monday due to predictions for a nor'easter that may bring more than a foot of snow to the area over three days. Residents have been asked to move their cars from the street, and some town programs have been canceled for Monday (see below).
A school district spokeswoman wrote, "Due to anticipated winter weather and the possibility of power outages, Summit Public Schools will be closed on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021. Instruction and all school activities will be cancelled."
The town said, in a separate update, that due to the forecast, the city of Summit is issuing the following closures and suspension of services:

- Please remove all parked cars from the street immediately, stay safe and avoid all unnecessary travel until roads are cleared.
- The Department of Community Services construction desk is closed for scheduled public appointments and walk-in service.
- The Summit Community Center building will be closed and all programs are canceled including youth basketball, open gym and the after school program.
- Senior Connections bus service is temporarily suspended.
- Residential garbage collection will proceed as scheduled for Monday.* If garbage collection is suspended on Tuesday, February 2, notification will be provided late Monday. Please clear a path for crews to access trash containers.
- City departments will be open for remote access by email. A staff directory is available on the city website. Updates will continue to be posted on the website and social media channels – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
- *If snow and sleet totals exceed projected amounts, household garbage collection will be rescheduled for Monday, and information will follow.

The National Weather Service says that 9-13 inches of snow could fall just on Monday. They have issued an alert saying snow could total 16-22 inches from Sunday night through early Tuesday morning.
