Summit Unveils Community Events: Outdoor Film, Dancing, Heritage
From Fiesta Latina to a battle of the bands to a Klezmer band.
SUMMIT, NJ – The Summit Department of Community Program has announced its schedule for September events on the Village Green, at 356 Broad St.
On Saturday, Community Programs will host a Screen on the Green movie night showing of the movie Wonder with a family dance party beginning at 7 p.m. Prior to the movie, a TryCAN documentary produced by Nishika Aggarwal will be shown. The documentary and movie will begin at dusk. The Screen on the Green event is sponsored by the Summit PAL.
On Monday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Summit Free Public Library will host a concert featuring the Jewish folk music of the Odessa Klezmer Band. In the event of rain, the performance will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Fiesta Latina, a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, will be held on Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. De Tierra Caliente will perform traditional and modern Latin songs. The event will also feature food trucks with Hispanic cuisine.

Concluding the month is a new event, Summit’s Battle of the Bands, on Saturday, Sept. 26, noon to 5 p.m. Local talent will be invited to perform a 30-minute set. At the conclusion of the performances, the audience will vote for their favorite band. The winning band will be invited to perform at one of the Department of Community Programs events in 2021. The deadline to enter is Monday, Sept. 14.
