Union County's Covid Cases: This Week's Numbers
See the updated statistics for new cases and fatalities in the county and state of New Jersey below.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — As the state continues to roll out coronavirus vaccinations, new cases of the virus are slowing, but the daily fatality rate still has not dropped to the level of Sept. 7, when there were a total of only two coronavirus fatalities reported statewide.
For the third week in a row, all 21 counties in New Jersey except Atlantic County are out of the "red zone," the highest risk category, according to federal officials. Read more here.

Here are recent statewide numbers amid the second wave of the virus:
- The state of New Jersey said Wednesday that it had confirmed 63 new deaths since the day before, bringing the total death toll from the virus statewide to 21,052.
- On Monday, the state said 1,865 patients statewide were hospitalized with the virus, 387 of those in ICU and 226 of those on ventilators.
- New Jersey's peak daily death toll on April 30, 2020 was 460 fatalities reported in one day. The number then steadily dropped until late summer, when cases began rising again.

In Union County, the rate of new cases remained about the same from the week before, but still lower than the spike following the winter holidays. There were 17 new confirmed fatalities since last Friday, countywide.
On Friday, March 5, Union County reported a total of 49,881 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic and 1,581 confirmed deaths. That's a 2.6 percent increase in cases since the previous week, and a 1 percent increase in deaths.
A week ago Friday, the county reported 48,598 confirmed cases of the virus since the beginning of the pandemic, an increase of 2 percent since the previous week. The county also reported a death toll of 1,564, a 2 percent increase in the weekly death rate over the previous week's numbers.
Two weeks earlier, the state reported 47,596 cases, as well as a death toll of 1,536.
The disease’s impact is reflected in the state Department of Health's most recent "COVID-19 Activity Level Report," issued weekly.
As of this week, more than 520,000 Americans had died of the virus. (You can see which states had the highest death toll in the past week on this CDC map.)
