This Week's Union County Coronavirus Numbers And Trends
There were 17 new coronavirus deaths confirmed in Union County in the last week, continuing a trend from the previous week.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Union County is still losing residents to coronavirus and thousands more are testing positive each week, but there is positive news among the state vaccination numbers.
This Friday's coronavirus case numbers from the state indicate that Union County lost 17 people to the previous since the previous week. The number of deaths the previous week was also 17. Union County's death toll from the virus is now 1,689. (It was 1,672 the previous week and 1,161 the week before.)
The numbers indicated total cases of 59,174 in Union County since the start of the pandemic. That number was up from 57,648 the week before, an increase of 1,526 cases in the county. That's a case increase of 2.6 percent, a greater rate of increase since the previous week, which saw a 1.8 percent rise in cases.

As of this past Monday, any New Jersey resident 16 and up could get vaccinated, which should have an impact on deaths and cases in the future. (As of Friday, 2.6 million New Jersey residents had been vaccinated.)
The disease’s impact on Union County is reflected in the state Department of Health's most recent "COVID-19 Activity Level Report," issued weekly.

State and national numbers
On Friday, there were 27 new confirmed deaths in the state from the virus in the state since the previous day, bringing the New Jersey toll to 22,717. There were 2,114 hospitalizations as of Wednesday, the last day the hospitalization numbers were released.
As of Friday, across the country, approximately 570,977 Americans had died of the virus. (You can see which states had the highest death toll in the past week on this CDC map.)
