Additional Outages In Teaneck Caused By Blown Transformer

In Teaneck, 4,328 residents are still without power Thursday afternoon as restoration and clean up efforts continue.

TEANECK, NJ — As thousands remain without power across Bergen County, Teaneck residents are exposed to some sort of Murphy's Law test.

On Wednesday, Deputy Mayor Elie Y. Katz said a blown transformer caused additional outages as PSE&G began to make headway on restoration efforts.

As of Thursday at 2:15 p.m., 4,328 Teaneck residents remain without power.

The current expectation, the company said, is to have power restored to at least 85 percent of the remaining customers by Friday evening. However, there may be exceptions.

"Some difficult restorations may continue through the weekend — possibly into Monday," the company said.

According to Katz, Teaneck Department of Public Works employees and outside contractors are working around the clock to remove downed trees and limbs in the area.

Parts of town with power lines down, Katz added, can't be addressed until PSE&G turns off those lines.

Many residents are also missing phone and internet service, Katz said, and he has been in touch with Verizon to ask for an estimate of when it may be restored. As of Thursday, Katz did not provide an update on that front in his "Tid-Bits" newsletter.

A PSE&G customer comfort station has been set up at the Bergen County Special Services Building, 275-285 Pascack Road, in Paramus for customers still without power to get ice and water on Thursday.

State distancing and health and safety protocols will be followed, and the company asks that, upon arrival, customers open the trunk of their car so the ice and water can be placed inside by an employee.

Here are other comfort station locations in the state:

  • Kennedy Center (Willingboro Recreation and Parks Department), 429 John F. Kennedy Way, Willingboro.
  • Lawrence Township Municipal Building, 2207 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville.
