The following press release was submitted by the Teaneck Community Education Center:

What to do with the kids during the February school recess may be answered with just three clicks on the computer:  teaneckpublicschools.org, Community Education Center, and then the link to the Spring 2011 Community Education Center brochure.  Scroll to page 26 and read about Camp Kookooskoos school vacation programs, particularly the session that will be held February 22 - 25 (Tuesday-Friday),from 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., with an optional extended day from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and / or 5:30 - 6:15 p.m.  You may also call the Teaneck Community Education Center during school hours at 201/833-5514.

The program will be held at Bryant School (One Tryon Avenue) and is open to children from pre-K (four years old by October 1, 2010) – grade 6, non-residents as well as residents.  The cost for the four days is just $200 for Teaneck residents, $190 for a second child, $20 for the morning extension, and $15 for the evening extension.  Prices for non-residents are $215, $205 for the second child, and the same $15 and $20 for the extended day.

Less expensive and more exciting than hiring a babysitter, activities include arts and crafts, cooking, edible bingo, board games, basketball, relay races, jump rope, outdoor play, dance, etc., and may also feature special programs from Hobby Quest.  All of this is under the supervision of teachers or trained child care professionals.

Camp Kookooskoos was introduced years ago as a "school vacation program" to fill the gap created during school recesses when child care programs close down, and is also a summer day camp. The name, which means "great horned owl," was selected by the first campers, who voted on suggestions submitted in a name-the-camp contest.  Call Center director Karen Yucht, 201/833-5514, for applications and additional information.
