Due to the Covid-19 education and the job market is looking very different for New Jersey recent high school graduates.

According to a survey by Junior Achievement and the PMI Educational Foundation, 49% of the class of 2020 has changed their higher education plans and are delaying college. Most plan to take time to gain experience and work within industries that do not require an associate or bachelor’s degree while the world looks for a solution to the Coronavirus. Real Estate has emerged as the breakthrough industry for these students.

“We have seen an uptick in the number of recent high school grads that are applying to take the 75 hour pre-licensing class to become a New Jersey real estate agent,” said Eric Anderson, the State Director of the Center for Real Estate Education, which provides the required live online courses to become a New Jersey and New York real estate agent and is pending approval to offer their classes for college credits when completing the licensing process. “Real Estate is one of the only mainstream careers that allow you to start with only a high school diploma or GED and gives you an unlimited earning potential – with as little as 2-weeks of licensing classes.”

Anderson and the Center for Real Estate Education created a reduced-price program specifically for recent high school graduates whose higher education and career paths are being put on hold because of the effects of COVID-19. The Real Estate Salesperson Licensing Course for Recent High School Grads allows young people between the ages of 17 and 21 who graduated high school in 2019 and 2020 take the required real estate course for both New Jersey and New York real estate licenses for only $199 (the normal cost of the adult program is $399). The has a rolling admission, allowing students to start anytime they wish. The program also is flexible with classes 7 days a week and 3 evenings a week allowing students to make their own schedules. The school provides additional support to students for finding brokerages to begin their careers.

Anderson believes this is the perfect next step for young people in New Jersey. “With a real estate license these young people who have been stalled due to the Coronavirus are able to begin a lucrative and stable career in real estate. Even if they choose to go on to a 4-year university, they will always have potential income and advancement within the real estate industry.”
