TEANECK, NJ — Deputy Mayor Elie Y. Katz defined the impact of Tropical Storm Isaias in stark terms.

"This storm hit us and caused probably as much or more damage than Hurricane Sandy (minus the floods and gas station outages)," he said.

As of 9:30 a.m. Friday, PSE&G reports 3,269 Teaneck customers still without power. On Thursday, that included the Teaneck municipal building and the police department, according to Katz.

"We know that there are still people waiting for electricity and some for cable/internet...and we know how frustrating and scary this is," he said.

PSE&G seconded Katz's sentiment, stating that the storm is historic in the damage it caused.

"We estimate that Tropical Storm Isaias is our fifth most severe storm in history and the second most severe, to Superstorm Sandy, in the past eight years," said the company, in a statement.

According to Katz, over 115 trees fell in Teaneck, as did over 100 electric, cable and telephone lines. Ten homes were hit by trees, he added.

The current expectation, the company said, is to have power restored to at least 85 percent of the remaining customers by Friday evening. However, there may be exceptions.

"Some difficult restorations may continue through the weekend — possibly into Monday," the company said.

For those still without power, a charging station has been set up at the Richard Rodda Community Center in Teaneck, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Customer Comfort Stations are still available for affected customers Friday, including a location at the Bergen County Special Services Building in Paramus from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
