Lidl Announces Opening Date For Bergenfield Store: Report

The German-based discount chain unveiled its grand opening date for its location in Bergenfield.

BERGENFIELD, NJ – Lidl, the German-based discount grocery chain, will open is first store in northern New Jersey next month, according to a report.

A Dec. 18 grand opening is scheduled for the 54,500-square-foot store at 80 New Bridge Road in Bergenfield, NJBiz.com reported.

The doors will open at exactly 7:40 a.m. and the first 100 customers will get a gift card between $5 and $100. The grand opening weekend will feature all types of games, activities and prizes, according to the report.

The Bergenfield store, which was formerly an Acme supermarket, is Lidl’s first location in Bergen County and sixth in New Jersey. It will be open Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

In 2018, Lidl was ranked by Food & Wine magazine as the third best grocery in the U.S., above Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and Aldi.

The chain utilizes cost-cutting measures to keep prices down, such as foregoing checkout bags and not carrying many name brands.
