TEANECK, NJ — Bergen County police officers have begun receiving the COVID-19 vaccine at Holy Name Medical Center as the state creeps slowly in Category 1B of its rollout plan.

First to receive the vaccine at the Teaneck hospital were officers from the township department, who began receiving the vaccine as early as Jan. 5, according to Teaneck Police officials.

On Monday, vaccination efforts expanded beyond the township, as officers from departments including South Hackensack, Haworth, Oradell, River Vale and Bogota were inoculated.

"We are thrilled to extend the vaccine to these frontline heroes who continue to risk their lives to keep us safe," said Holy Name officials, in a Monday Facebook post.

This comes as the state continues to grow the publicly listed vaccine site list, including a few additions in Bergen County.

But just because the list of sites has grown doesn't mean the list of people who can get the vaccine is growing as well.

Vaccines are currently only available to those who fit the criteria for Phase 1A, as well as sworn law enforcement, fire professionals, and other first responders who fit the criteria for Phase 1B.

Currently, the number of COVID-19 vaccination sites sits at 120 across the state, but Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli, speaking to NJ Spotlight News, said on Saturday that the state plans to increase the number of vaccination sites to 300.

Another site in Teaneck is slated to begin vaccinations sometime this week, likely at the Richard Rodda Center.
