Rally Scheduled In Teaneck As Trump Disputes Vote Count

TEANECK, NJ — As part of the nationwide "Protect the Results" movement, eight Bergen County activist groups will rally in Teaneck Wednesday as vote counting continues, and President Donald Trump makes unfounded claims of fraud.

Organizers with Indivisible in New Jersey's 5th Congressional District said this rally was a culmination of efforts that began after Trump's election.

"We’ve been marching and rallying for 4 years. We’ve been writing, calling and canvassing for 4 years. The time has come to restore our democracy and that cannot and will not happen until every vote is counted," they said, in a news release.

Ridgewood Jolt said this rally is a show of true patriotism.

"This rally is necessary to warn that we will not be silent in the event that Americans are deprived of their vote due to judicial overstepping, deliberate mismanagement of our postal system, or other political intervention. This is how you protect Democracy. This is what flag loving Patriots do. Every vote must count or democracy dies," the group said, in a statement.

The rally is scheduled for 4 p.m., but the location will only be released to those who register for the rally.

In addition to Indivisible NJ 5th District, Glen Rock After the March, Ramsey PINS, Ridgewood Jolt, Teaneck Peace Vigil, Teaneck Women Together, Waldwick Progressives and Women for Progress are co-sponsoring the event, according to a news release.

The rally comes as, nationally, Trump questions the legitimacy of this election, and even claimed victory early Wednesday morning despite votes to be counted in multiple states.

Trump addressed the nation from the White House about 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, claiming without evidence that continued vote counting after Election Day was a "fraud" on the American public and that "a sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise" the millions of Americans who had voted to give him another term, according to a Patch report.

He went a step further, adding that he was ready to go to the Supreme Court to stop the remaining vote count.

Biden campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon said in a statement just before 4 a.m. that Trump's vote counting remarks are "outrageous, unprecedented and incorrect."

Local groups responded to these remarks as well.

"It’s urgent that we stand together to protect democracy," said Teaneck Peace Vigil, in a statement. "The threats from the Trump administration and other rightwing forces will be met around the country with non-violent resistance. Democracy must triumph."

For Glen Rock After the March, this rally is a show of strength; a group of Americans in Bergen County and beyond who won't be standing idly by.

"We will not allow this President to render our elections irrelevant. Our coalition is strong and our voices will be heard," they said, in a statement.
