Robert A. Croonquist, 88, 30-Year Teaneck Police Officer

He was a member of the Teaneck American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and commander of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post in Saddle Brook.

TEANECK, NJ — Robert A. Croonquist, 88, a lifelong township resident and 30-year police officer, died Wednesday.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Before retiring, he was a captain for the Teaneck Police Department from 1954 to 1985. Subsequently, he was the public safety director of Bergen Community College for 10 years.

He was a member of the Teaneck American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and commander of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post in Saddle Brook.

He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (nee Zweil) and daughter, Deborah.

Visitation with the family is Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck. A funeral service is Monday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at st. Joseph's Church, Bogota.

Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
