Rochelle Shoretz, Founder Of Cancer Support Group, Dies

Shoretz, 42, founded the group Sharsheret in 2001 when she was 28.

Rochelle Shoretz, the founder of Sharsheret, a noted cancer support group, died Tuesday at her Teaneck home, reports stated.

Shoretz founded the group in 2001 when she was in her oncologist’s office awaiting chemotherapy, The New York Times reported.

Since it was founded, the group has, the report states “fielded thousands of inquiries form women who have breast cancer” or who are at risk of getting breast or ovarian cancer. The group connects then with “health professionals, support groups, and other resources.

Shoretz was against diagnosed with cancer in 2009.

“Of course I wish I had more time,” she told the Jewish newspaper The Forward when she was diagnosed again. “I would love to see grandchildren, to see weddings, to be a part of these amazing things for more time, but I love life and don’t want to spend any of it mourning the loss of that which I can’t have.”

Shoretz is survived by her parents, stepparents, two sons, five sisters, and two brothers.
