Teaneck's 4th Of July Fireworks 2020 Canceled

Teaneck's traditional Fourth of July events may be canceled, but there are several other ways you can celebrate the holiday safely.

TEANECK, NJ — July 4 events across the country will not look the same this year thanks to the coronavirus. Many cities and towns have been forced to cancel the annual Fourth of July events, including Mahwah.

And the municipality isn't alone. Across New Jersey, townships, cities and boroughs have been forced to put their fireworks shows, parades and other events on the shelf, or cancel them outright.

Paramus announced that July 4 events will be postponed, while events in Ridgewood, Wayne, Glen Rock, Saddle Brook, Allendale, Hackensack and Maywood have been cancelled for the year.

Wyckoff Mayor Tim Shanley said in a June letter to the township that the coronavirus pandemic could even affect the revival of the township's Labor Day fireworks show.

"We have not been having meetings to plan the September fireworks to see how the fireworks happen on July 4th if at all," he wrote.

Despite the mass cancellations, there are still places to celebrate the holiday:

  • According to the Ridgewood Fourth of July Committee, the annual flag raising in Wilsey Square is still scheduled for 9 a.m. on July 4.
  • The Ridgefield Park 4th of July Committee announced in a June 13 Facebook message that, although the baby parade was cancelled, plans were being made to host a July 4 parade of some kind.
  • The State Fair Meadowlands, which normally has fireworks on July 3 and 4, is now running instead from July 23 through Aug. 9. When they update their schedule it will be here.
  • The Cedar Grove Fireworks Display is scheduled for Thursday, July 2 — rain date July 3 — but things will work a little differently this year, as no one will be permitted on the turf field, and attendees are asked to stay in their cars to watch. The show will also be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/cedargroverec.
  • Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks are taking place on July 4 as usual, and will be shown on NBC. The store chain has not yet announced specifics.
