Teaneck Contestant Secures Spot On NBC's 'The Voice'
Olivia Reyes, a 19-year-old Teaneck resident, could soon be a household name after a standout performance, and a placement on Team Legend.

TEANECK, NJ — It took singer, songwriter and "The Voice" coach John Legend all of 30 seconds to decide that Teaneck's Olivia Reyes would be on his team.
As his oversized chair began to pivot toward the stage, Reyes' mother and grandmother jumped for joy. Legend, mouth agape, head swaying back and forth, watched on as Reyes finished her rendition of Harry Styles' 'Falling.'
"As soon as you start hitting those higher notes, your tone was so crystal clear and piercing, it was gorgeous," said Legend.

Reyes, 19, was a relatively late bloomer. Or, at least, she didn't make her singing talents known until about five years ago.
"This is probably one of the handful of times that I've ever performed on-stage," she admitted.

According to NBC, Reyes was involved in choir and musical theater growing up, but mainly sang background until she was 14, when she entered herself in a teen competition.
She entered the same competition again the following year, when she took home first prize.
"Such a daring thing, to sing to the backs of four chairs of people you're hoping will hear something in you that makes them feel moved," said Legend.
Eventually, Reyes chose to join Team Legend over the team of Gwen Stefani, who also turned her chair.
"This is literally the hardest decision I've ever had to make in my entire life," she said.
