Teaneck Public Schools Postpone Reopening Amid NJ COVID Spike

The district was slated to return to in-person learning Monday. That won't happen, Superintendent Christopher Irving announced Thursday.

TEANECK, NJ — Students in Teaneck Public Schools won't be returning to the classroom Monday as originally planned, Superintendent Christopher Irving announced in a letter Thursday.

Amid a recent spike in coronavirus cases, and after officials decided to close municipal buildings to the public on Monday, the Board of Education decided to postpone the district's in-person restart.

This news also followed two coronavirus cases in the district, Irving said.

"I recognize that we are three days away from the start of the second marking period, and I assure you that my team will be working diligently over the next 24 hours to provide the information that you need regarding the classroom schedules for next week and beyond," Irving wrote.

Irving said parents will receive additional communication in the coming days, and said he understands what this means for a lot of them.
