Teaneck swimmer bags gold in the NJS Bronze/Silver Championships
Rookie swimmer qualifies to the NJS LC Junior Olympics this July 26-28, 2018

JB Abarquez clocked 42.03 seconds in the 50 meter breaststroke, earning him a gold medal in the recently concluded New Jersey Swim Bronze/Silver Championships at the Berkeley Aquatics Center in New Providence, New Jersey. He placed first out of the 87 boys ages 11-12 swimming the 50 meter breaststroke on July 14, 2018 in Region A of the New Jersey Swim league. Asked how he feels about going to the Long Course Junior Olympics he said "I'm new in competitive swimming and to have earned a gold time on my first year is something I did not expect. The idea of swimming in the Junior Olympics is very exciting to me! I'm very grateful to my coaches, friends and most of all, to my family who keeps encouraging me. Thank you!" JB is a 6th grade student at Teaneck Community Charter School and he swims with the Jersey Flyers Aquatic Club in Secaucus. Even while on training, he still loves to swim at the Teaneck Votee Park pool in the summer where his dad doubles as head lifeguard and swimming instructor. "Teaneck is a great place to live. There's a number of us swimmers who go to Jersey Flyers in Secaucus to swim competitively. My mom tells me about Jason Arthur who graduated from Teaneck High who used to swim with JFAC just like I do. She said Jason was a great swimmer during his time at Teaneck High. Stories like his inspires young swimmers like me." Will JB follow the steps of J.A.-Jason Arthur? That is something we all look forward to find out!
