Teaneck Native Christina McHale Competing In U.S. Open Today
Tennis pro is seeded No. 93 in the Grand Slam event.
Christina McHale is the No. 93 seed in this year’s U.S. Open.
The 23-year-old phenom from Englewood Cliffs will face Petra Cetkovska of the Czech Republic in a first-round match today at 11 a.m.
McHale, who is ranked the 59th top women’s player in the world, lost in the second round of last year’s U.S. Open to 16th seed Victoria Azarenka. In other Grand Slam play last year she reached the second round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon, but lost her opening-round match at the French Open.

Her best career Grand Slam year was in 2012 when she got to the third round of the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon. She was ranked No. 24 in the world that year.
McHale. who was born in Teaneck, has won a little more than $2.1 million in her professional tennis career.

McHale posted her excitement of competing in the final Grand Slam of the year a few days ago on Twitter.
“There’s no place quite like it,” she said. “Checking in at the final Grand Slam of the year.”
McHale is using gear in the U.S. Open from HEAD and RED to help fight AIDS. She posted a picture of her with her gear on Twitter Monday morning.
