A former financial services executive is about to celebrate 365 days of business as a first-time restaurateur in Verona.

VERONA, NJ — A former financial services executive is about to celebrate 365 days of business as a first-time restaurateur in Verona.

On Saturday, April 14, Verona Mayor Kevin Ryan and Director of Administration & Economic Development Steven Neale will join other township officials as they help owner Soody Nelson and the Zaferon Grill team celebrates the local restaurant’s first anniversary at an open house event.

The public event is slated for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Zaferon Grill, 648 Bloomfield Avenue in Verona. It will include a ribbon cutting, complimentary mimosas and goodies from the menu, “swag bags” for the first 25 guests, activities for kids and a “special cake,” the business stated in a news release.

Nelson is a first-time restaurateur whose 32-year career as a financial services executive took her “all over the world,” the news release stated.

According to its website, the restaurant aims to provide Mediterranean-American cuisine with Persian accents in a “serene, elegant, Zen-like setting.” Its dinner and weekend brunch options include organic, hormone- and antibiotic-free meat and poultry, wild-caught fish, organic produce, house-baked taftoon (flatbread) and fresh-blended juices. It also offers gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options.
