Baseball to Hockey: Exploring the Evolution of the Face Mask in Sports

Yogi Berra Museum opens new exhibit on April 1.

From April 1, to October 4, the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center will launch a new exhibit exploring the history of baseball and hockey facial protection, “Saving Face: The Evolution of the Catcher and Goalie Mask.”

According to a press release, the exhibit will include some of sports’ “most iconic face wear,” including Boston Bruins goalie Gerry Cheevers’ famed “stitched mask.” The exhibit also spotlights the masks of current National Hockey League and Major League Baseball players, including Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers and Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants.
