Cars Kill 3 Deer In One Day In Cedar Grove

Motor vehicles killed three deer in one day on Sept. 24 in Cedar Grove.

According to police, deer were struck on Little Falls Road around 8 a.m., Pompton Avenue around 1 p.m., and at the intersection of Pompton and Stevens Avenues around 9:45 p.m.

In all three instances, the involved cars killed the deer and left the scene prior to police arrival.

“Due to the large deer population in the area, motorists are urged to use caution when operating near wooded areas, especially between dusk and dawn,” Cedar Grove police stated.

Other recent car-hits-deer incidents that have taken place in Cedar Grove include:

  • During the week of June 15th, police responded to three deer-related motor vehicle crashes at Pompton Avenue and Harper Terrace, Pompton Avenue near Mountain Ridge Drive and Myrtle and Fairview Avenues. Police reported that in all cases, the deer ran into the roadway and were killed by the impact.
  • On Monday, August 24, at 5:09 p.m., police responded to the area Pompton and Stevens Avenues on a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a deer. Upon arrival, police discovered a badly injured deer in the roadway. Due to the animal’s severe injuries, it was necessary for police needed to destroy the deer. The involved vehicle left the scene prior to police arrival.
  • On Tuesday, March 17, police responded to two separate motor vehicle crashes involving deer. The first occurred at 6:53 a.m. at Fairview Avenue & Upland Way. The involved motorist had been traveling south on Fairview when a deer ran into the roadway resulting in a collision. The vehicle, a 2012 Toyota, sustained front-end damage and the deer got up and ran from the scene. The second occurred at Rt. 23 & Stevens Avenue at 7:03 p.m. The involved motorist had been traveling south on Rt. 23 when a deer entered the road and ran into the side of her vehicle, a 2013 Toyota. The vehicle sustained body damage and the deer was killed in the collision.
  • On Monday, August 31, at 4:23 p.m., police responded to Pompton Avenue at Morgan’s Farm on a report of a badly injured deer. Upon arrival, police discovered a badly injured deer in the roadway that had been apparently struck by a motor vehicle. Due to the animal’s severe injuries, it was necessary for police to destroy the deer. The involved vehicle left the scene prior to police arrival.
