Longtime Cedar Grove resident Melvin Freundlich passed away on Oct. 24.
He was 88-years-old.

“Dr. Melvin H. Freundlich, M.D., 88, of Cedar Grove, N.J., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 24, 2015.
“Born in Manhattan, NY, to the late Hile and Julian Freundlich, Dr. Freundlich lived in Cedar Grove for most of his life.

“While in the University of Colorado at Boulder, Mel was drafted in the Occupational Army and stationed in Japan as a Lab Tech. Passionate about his education, he studied and took exams via mail with his professors so he didn’t lose any time. Returning to the University of Colorado at Boulder, he graduated Magna Cum Laude, and then earned his medical degree at the State University of New York, College of Medicine Downstate Medical Center in 1954. He continued his post-graduate work at Montefiore Hospital, NY, Queens Medical Center Hospital, NY, and the Atomic Energy Commission, Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
“He practiced Hematology/Oncology and later Nuclear Medicine. Dr. Freundlich practiced in New York before moving to New Jersey. In 1972, Dr. Freundlich became Director of Nuclear Medicine and Hematology at Clara Maass Medical Center, Belleville, NJ.
“Predeceased by his loving parents, Hile Aarons and Julian Freundlich and his sister, Ann Feshbach.
“He is survived by his loving wife, Maureen (nee: McKelvey), his children, Julie Lang, Naomi Freundlich, and her husband, Charles Miles, Melanie Freundlich, and her husband, Peter Trilling; his stepchildren, Charlene Villane, Lynette Perrone, and William G. Villane Jr.; his grandchildren, Charles and Flora Lang, Sophia and Ava Trilling, Hannah, Clara, and Benjamin Miles, Anthony James Perrone and William G. Villane III.
“In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Barnabas Hospice and Home Care Services, 95 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange, NJ 07052 or to The Michael J. Fox Foundation, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, N.Y. 10163-4777.”
