Cedar Grove Obitutary: Lena Tanis
The longtime Cedar Grove resident was a substitute teacher in town and organist/choir director at Second Reformed Church in Little Falls.

Cedar Grove resident Lena Tanis passed away on Oct. 8.
She was 87-years-old.

“Lena R. Tanis, 87, of Pompton Plains, N.J., formerly of Cedar Grove, N.J, passed away on October 8, 2015.
“Born and raised in Clifton, N.J., she lived in Cedar Grove for more than 50 years before moving to Pompton Plains last year. She was a substitute teacher with the Cedar Grove Board of Education. She was the organist and choir director at Second Reformed Church, Little Falls, N.J. and was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross’ Fairfield office.

“Predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Olive Kievit, husband, Clinton Tanis, and daughter, Edith Ewing, Lena is survived by her children, Barry (Bonnie), Donald (Kristine), Jill, and Beth Rolland (Grey); grandchildren, Stephen and Emily Ewing and Jonathan, Annelise, and Erik Tanis, and sisters, Katherine Giblin and Trudy Faber.
“In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northern N.J. Chapter of the American Red Cross, 209 Fairfield Rd., Fairfield, N.J.”
