Homeowner, Police Chase Burglary Suspects In Cedar Grove

After a homeowner reported seeing three people looking through a car in his driveway, he gave chase.

CEDAR GROVE, NJ — A high-speed car chase that began with a homeowner was picked up by police was called off without an arrest Saturday, according to the Cedar Grove Police Department.

A Timber Rock Court homeowner told police he saw three people in his driveway at 12:55 a.m. and believed one of them was holding a gun. The resident gave chase on to Route 23, and police eventually caught up, and continued the chase into Verona and then onto Route 280 West.

Police eventually broke off the pursuit because it was determined that no robbery had taken place. The unlocked vehicle in the driveway had been searched, but nothing was reported missing, police said.

The case is under investigation and police urged the public to call the police immediately when seeing suspicious activity.

"It is not safe to investigate, follow or go looking for the actors on your own," police said in a statement.
