Northern New Jersey Primed to See Lyrid Meteor Shower

Earthsky.org: As many as 10-20 meteors per hour may be seen in pre-dawn hours Monday.

Residents in northern New Jersey should be treated to the peak of the annual Lyrid meteor shower in Monday’s pre-dawn hours if the weather cooperates, according to an astronomy website.

The best time to see the meteor shower, which has been active since April 16 and runs until Thursday, is the pre-dawn hours Monday when about 10-20 meteors an hour will be on display, the posting on Earthsky.org said.

In 1982, the website says, an outburst of nearly 100 meteors per hour could be seen.
