Rivalry Prompts Cedar Grove, Verona Top Cops To Accept Donations

VERONA/CEDAR GROVE, NJ — The Verona and Cedar Grove police chiefs are encouraging people to support local charities ahead of the annual local high school football rivalry game.

Chief Christopher Kiernan and Chief Joseph Cirasa are hoping to rally their local fan bases behind local charities in the spirit of competition ahead of the high school football rivalry game Friday when the Verona Hillbillies and the Cedar Grove Panthers will face off in Cedar Grove.

The schools' boys soccer and girls volleyball teams will also play each other this week.

Cirasa has requested that donations be made to the educational fund for Cedar Grove resident Allison Walton, a mother of three children who recently died after a battle with breast cancer. Residents can drop off checks made payable to the Walton Children Education Fund at the Cedar Grove Police Department's front desk anytime through Saturday.

Kierman asked that donations be made to the Verona Fights Hunger fundraiser run by the Verona Junior Women's Club. Donations of the non-perishable food can be dropped off at the Verona Police Department front desk anytime through Saturday.

Besides supporting the charity organizations, Kierman and Cirasa have made a friendly dinner wager to each department's members at a local restaurant.
