Seeking Entries: Essex County Launches Parks Photography Contest

Contest open to Verona-Cedar Grove residents; Deadline is September 16.

Keep your eyes open for picturesque moments of beauty this summer… They could end up being future works of art.

Essex County officials recently announced the opening of the 2015 Essex County Parks Photography Contest. Photographers of all ages and abilities may submit photos highlighting the Essex County Parks System.

The contest is free and is sponsored by the Essex County Environmental Center.

The deadline for entries is Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Entries will be judged in two categories:

  • Youth - ages 17 years and younger
  • Adult - ages 18 and older

All photographs should be taken within the boundaries of the Essex County Parks System during the past year. Each photographer may submit two entries. The entry should include an 8-by-10-inch copy of the photograph with the photographer’s name, address, phone number, category entered, date and location where the photo was taken listed on the back of the photo. A digital copy of the photograph should also be submitted if it was taken in a digital format. Photographs should not be framed or matted. Color and black and white photographs will be judged together.

Any entries that include an individual must be accompanied by a release statement signed by the person featured in the photograph or their guardian if they are a minor.

Judging will be done by a group of professionals based on creativity, technical superiority, composition, and the photograph’s depiction of the uniqueness of the Essex County Parks System.

Entries may be mailed or hand-delivered to the Essex County Environmental Center, 621B Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland, NJ, 07068. All entries will become the property of the Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs and may be used in future publications, promotional materials or displays.

All photographs will be on display at the Essex County Environmental Center from Saturday, October 3rd to Saturday, October 31st. Hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
