Vaping Trend Among Kids To Be Discussed In Verona

The 'alarming' vaping trend among middle- and high school-aged kids and marijuana edibles will be discussed Tuesday in Verona.

VERONA, NJ — The growing trend of vaping among middle- and high school-aged kids will be discussed at a special information session in Verona Tuesday.

The information session will be at the Verona Community Center ballroom from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The Verona Municipal Alliance Committee and the Verona Health Department are hosting the meeting.

Nicki Francis from Wellspring Center for Prevention, a substance abuse prevention nonprofit, will speak at the meeting.

The number of vaping hospitalizations is increasing among a deadly outbreak related to vaping.

The New Jersey Hospital Association recently reported an increase in hospitalization where e-cigarette usage is known in kids between 11 and 12 years old. Peak cigarette use happens between the ages of 18 and 24.

The number of possible cases in New Jersey vaping sickness outbreak continues to increase. The number of possible cases the state Department of Health reported has doubled since the state announced the first New Jersey death associated with vaping on Oct. 1.

Gov. Phil Murphy announced Sept. 12 the state created the Electronic Smoking Device Task Force.
