Verona Candidate Forum: Town Council Race Shaping Up

5 nominations to fill 2 open seats: Alex Roman, John Quattrocchi, Michael Nochimson, John FioRito, and Christine McGrath.

VERONA, NJ — The Junior Woman’s Club of Verona will host a public forum with candidates for Town Council on May 1 at 7 p.m. in the Verona Community Center Ballroom, 880 Bloomfield Avenue.

According to a news release from organizers, the Verona Town Clerk’s Office received and approved five nominations to fill two open seats. The candidates running are (in order on the ballot): Alex Roman, John Quattrocchi, Michael Nochimson, John FioRito, and Christine McGrath.

The public forum will provide the five candidates an opportunity to introduce themselves and answer questions from the public. The evening will be moderated by a member of the League of Women Voters, whose purpose is to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation in government.

The election will take place on May 14, 2019.

The Junior Woman’s Club of Verona is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to supporting Verona and surrounding communities. Anyone interested in joining or learning more about the Juniors can visit VeronaJuniors.org.

Organizers provided the following information about the event:

  • Who is invited? All Verona residents and town council candidates are invited and encouraged to attend. The more, the merrier!
  • What happens at the forum? Candidates will give opening statements, answer questions from the audience and provide closing remarks.
  • How do I ask a question? During the event, audience members can write down questions to give the moderator to read aloud.
  • What is the Verona Juniors’ role in the event? The Juniors are hosting the event (aka- planning and helping with logistics). The Juniors are not affiliated with any candidate’s campaign, nor seeking to promote a campaign.
  • How long does the forum last? Approx. 90 minutes.
  • What if I missed the forum? The forum will be videotaped. Check for the link on the Verona Junior Woman’s Club Facebook page following the event.
  • What is the purpose? To learn about the candidates for an informed vote in the May 14, 2019, election.
  • Who is moderating? An impartial individual from the League of Women Voters will moderate the event. The League of Women Voters promotes political responsibility through informed and active participation in government. The League has been involved in other Verona forums, including one during the recent BOE election.
