VERONA, NJ — Will your car be parked in the right place if snow arrives in Verona and Cedar Grove?

As the North Jersey area buckles down for a potential snowstorm forecast to hit on Wednesday or Thursday, Verona and Cedar Grove officials issued an alert reminding residents to mind where they park their vehicles... or face the consequences.

The snowstorm is expected to bring 6 to 12 inches of snow, as well as some sleet, rain or ice, forecasters say.

The National Weather Service has issued a ”winter weather warning” for the entire state, except for Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties. Those counties have been issued a "winter weather advisory."

The Verona Police Department issued the following alert on Wednesday:

"There will be no street parking allowed tonight on any Verona street. Be advised that as per Borough Ordinance, parking prohibitions remain until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and parked cars will not interfere with the snow removal process.Please use Municipal Lot 1 (behind Terrys Drugs) if you have no other option. This ordinance applies to all vehicles."

Police cited the following ordinance:

Verona Ordinance § 140-25 Designation of snow emergency no-parking areas.

A. Whenever snow has fallen and the accumulation is such that it covers the street or highway, no vehicle shall be parked on either side of any of the streets or parts thereof described in Schedule XIX (§ 140-53 ) attached to and made a part of this chapter.B. The above parking prohibitions shall remain in effect after the snow has ceased until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic."

CEDAR GROVE

Cedar Grove officials issued the following advisory on Wednesday:

"Garbage pick up has been cancelled for Thursday, Feb. 9. Those residents should put there garbage out on their next regularly scheduled date Monday, Feb. 13.

"In order to allow the Department of Public Works access to clear the streets properly, please remove all parked cars from the street by late this evening.Overnight night parking on the street will not be granted under any circumstance.

"If you do not have a place to park your car, check with a neighbor for assistance. If necessary, you may use the rear portion of the Municipal Lot. For reasons of safety, we are urging people to stay off the roads during the storm. Please avoid unnecessary travel.

"In regard to snow removal, Township Ordinance requires that sidewalks be cleared within 24 hours after the snow stops. Please be aware that Township Ordinance prohibits the throwing or blowing of snow into the street. If you have a fire hydrant on your property, please remove the snow from the hydrant to allow the fire department access in an emergency. Please stay safe and call the Police Department at 973-239-4100 if need assistance."
