Verona Library Event: Downton Abbey and Life In The Edwardian Era

From Verona Public Library: Missing Downton Abbey? Historian Judith Krall-Russo will be at Verona Public Library to fill the void at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29.

According to a news release, the library will host a presentation that will illustrate what life was like in an English manor house during the Edwardian era (both upstairs and downstairs).

According to a library news release, the critically acclaimed TV Series Downton Abbey renewed popular interest in the Edwardian era, when King Edward VII reigned in the United Kingdom. It was a time of great disparity between the haves and the have-nots. Wealthy aristocrats owned huge manor houses and reveled in luxury, leisure, and extravagant entertaining. This "Golden Age," which was a reaction to the Victorian era, perched on a shaky foundation as the winds of change brought a time of greater social mobility within the rigid British class system.
