Verona Obituary: Marion Gillespie

The Verona resident was active in many township and Essex County organizations and a regular at town council meetings.

Verona resident Marion Gillespie passed away on Nov. 5.

She was 90-years-old.

“Mrs. Marion C. Gillespie, 85, died on November 5, 2015.

“Born in Newark and raised in West Orange, Mrs. Gillespie moved to Verona in 1960.

“She was an accountant with the Mountainside Hospital and then the Essex County Office of Budget & Management, retiring in 1995.

“Mrs. Gillespie was very involved in many aspects of Verona Township, serving on the Pool Committee, Rent Control Board, as a member of Verona Sports Boosters, the Verona Eagles and was a regular at the Town Council meetings. She was also a member of the Essex County Democratic Committee, Essex County Democratic Women, New Jersey State Affirmative Action Committee, the Jerome Greco, Joseph Minish & Carmine Orechio Civic Associations; Vice-Chairperson of the Verona Democratic Committee and a 1980 Delegate to the Carter Convention.

“Surviving are her daughter Cynthia Barrett and her husband Dennis and son Gil Gillespie and his wife Marilyn. She is the loving grandmother of Lynn Carter, Kelly Eaton and Ryan, Sean, Kyle and Dylan Gillespie.

“In lieu of flowers donations to the Verona Rescue Squad would be appreciated.”
