Verona Residents Encouraged To Fight Hunger This Week
4% of Verona residents live below the poverty line and 21% earn less than the basic cost of living for New Jersey.
VERONA, NJ — The sixth annual Verona Fights Hunger Week is underway.
The Junior Woman's Club of Verona is leading the town-wide food and fundraiser drive to benefit The Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair and The Church of the Holy Spirit Food Pantry, both of which serve Verona residents.
According to a 2016 financial hardship study, 21 percent of Verona's population earns less than the basic cost of living for New Jersey and 4 percent of residents live below the federal poverty line.

Local restaurants are hosting the Dine Out for Hunger campaign. A portion of proceeds from dinners bought at the following restaurants will be donated to the Verona Fights Hunger Week:
- Today: The Guac Spot
- Wednesday: Ariane Kitchen & Bar
- Thursday: Lakeside Deli
Donations may be dropped off at any Verona public schools, Our Lady of the Lake school and church, public library, community center, and town hall.

- Healthy breakfast cereal
- Healthy canned goods
- Boxed milk
- Condiments and spices
- Ensure products
- Toiletries
- Personal care items
- Laundry detergent
