1,700 NJ Residents Vaccinated Thanks To Watchung Hills Students

WARREN, NJ — A group of Watchung Hills High School students, led by Alexa Walters of Warren, were awarded by the Township Committee for helping 1,700 New Jersey residents get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The committee awarded the students, who helped to form Save Our State Stat, each with a certificate of recognition during the Thursday meeting.

Committee Person Vic Sordillo, who was personally helped by the girls, thanked them for their efforts.

"You helped me get vaccinated and now I can go into New York and feel safer," said Sordillo at the meeting. "I was in New York yesterday and I feel a lot better being on the subway and trains being vaccinated."

Walters, a freshman at the regional high school, first came up with the plan to form the group shortly after vaccines became available. "I am so happy that the organization I started was able to help so many people. It feels amazing knowing that we could have saved a life with the amount of vaccine appointments booked," said Walters. I never would've thought that my small conversation I had with my family could have snowballed into what it is today. I feel honored that the township committee recognized all of our hard work."
