Helicopter, Police K-9 Search For Car Thieves In Warren

A massive police search ​by air and foot took place in Warren Sunday morning after a Mercedes SUV was stolen out of Hillsborough.

WARREN, NJ — A massive police search by air and foot took place in Warren Sunday morning where authorities were looking for the people wanted in connection with a stolen SUV.

An unlocked Mercedes SUV was stolen out of Hillsborough around 5:27 a.m. from Lanning Way, Hillsborough Police Lt. Jim Omert said.

The SUV drove down I-78 and exit 40 before stopping near Stonehouse on Stirling Road. The person or people inside the SUV then ran away, Warren Police Lt. Paul Dziedzic said.

Police from multiple departments searched for the person or people involved using a helicopter and on foot with the help of K-9 units.

After a two-and-a-half-hour search, the people in the SUV were not found, Dziedzic said.

"There is no threat to residents," Dziedzic said.

As a result of the search, Stirling Road was closed. It has since been reopened.
