During April, which is the traditional tax month, we heard from many of our Federal elected officials bloviating about restoring the State And Local Tax (SALT) deduction on our federal tax returns. Both our US Senators stood outside of Penn Station and called for a repeal of the $10,000 cap. They were absolutely correct when they stated that New Jersey “gives more to the federal treasury than it receives.”

So why is this issue slowly dying? The press is trying to make it appear that a repeal is only helping the rich. This problem is that most of the country does not have the cost of living that we have, and in some states, the New Jersey middle class would be considered rich. This limitation hurts the average New Jersey working man and women. In fact, the average homeowning family, itemizing deductions, would receive about 50% of their municipal tax back in their federal tax return if SALT were repealed.

It is very easy to repeal. If the entire New Jersey delegation to Washington refuses to move on any of the Presidents agenda until the SALT tax full deduction is restored, it will be done. Will they have the courage and resolution? We elected them to represent us. Let’s hold them accountable. Do not support, vote for or donate to a US Senator or Congressman who does not immediately take this position. Let them know that it is time for action.

We need to all go on-line and send a message to our delegation. Tell them to do something now or their replacement will. https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

We are strong together. Let’s demonstrate this to Washington.
