Primrose School Students Will Deliver 'Fruits of Labor' to Food Bank

Children raised money for donations by performing chores.

More than 25 four-and five-year-olds from Primrose School of Warren will see the fruits of their labor transformed into the final step of delivering food to those in need on Friday, when they unload grocery purchases can-by-can at the Food Bank Network of Somerset County.

The food items were purchased with money the prekindergarten and kindergarten children earned by performing household chores at home. They then donated the funds to help families in need.

The students worked hard at home completing chores through-out the month of November as part of our Caring and Giving Program, according to a release from the school at 117 Mt. Bethel road in Warren. The program was implanted by the school teaching staff as they continue to encourage the young children to give back to their community.

This donation of food items comes when American families find themselves in critical need as men, women and children face hunger. According to Feeding America, a total of 49 million Americans struggle with hunger, including 16 million children.

Recently students combined their earnings, created a detailed shopping list and hit the aisles of local supermarkets, in conjunction with “Caring and Giving” activities. As part of the Primrose Schools Balanced Learning® system, this hands-on event helps students understand the value of generosity, math, nutrition and planning skills.
