WARREN, NJ — Warren Recreation has made the decision to cancel the township's annual Winter Festival, bonfire and fireworks due to coronavirus concerns.

"Unfortunately with COVID, we don't know if we are going to be able to have that many people on our grounds," said Committeewoman Jolanta Maziarz, who pointed to the number of attendees this past year. "There is no way to ensure that those people are socially distant and to be able to monitor that many people are wearing masks."

This upcoming festival would've been the township's 13th time hosting the event. It normally is held in January and includes carnival rides, a petting zoo, horse and carriage rides, ice carving, carnival games, ice skating, marshmallow roasting, hot chocolate, fireworks, and more.

Although the festival is canceled, Recreation Director Joe Passaro is looking to continue the township's concert series through the fall and early winter.

Passaro is working to secure bands to perform for upcoming concerts, Maziarz noted.
