Warren Girl Scouts Are Recruiting To Form New Troops

The Warren Girl Scout Troop is looking to capture incoming kindergartners to form new troops. Adult volunteers are also needed.

WARREN, NJ — As the new school year begins, Warren Girl Scouts are looking to recruit incoming kindergarteners to form new troops.

"Every September we start our recruiting for the fall," said Leslie Morales, troop leader.

Warren currently has 29 troops and more than 350 active girls in town.

"It is a very large unit, one of the largest in Somerset County," Morales said. "What makes us run is a group of wonderful volunteers who invest their time in our girls and town. It allows us to provide an outlet to get girls involved."

Along with the students, Morales said she is looking for adults to volunteer their time to help form the new troops. Specifically the new kindergarten troops.

This will be the first year each elementary school will have their own troop. In the past Woodland School has historically been low on the number of girls participating, but now Morales said she is seeing a lot of growth on that side of town. This will allow them to form a new troop.

Girls ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade can find a troop in town.

Morales got involved last year when her daughter entered kindergarten.

"I stepped up to be one of the troop leaders for her Daisy troop at for A. L. Tomaso School," Morales said. "It’s been a wonderful experience."

Morales encourages more adults to get involved now because they have an opportunity to get to know the girls as the new troops are formed when everything is still so new for everyone.

"They can create relationships for them and the girls," Morales said.

The Warren troops will kick off their new season in October. To learn more about Girl Scouts in Warren, how to join or to volunteer visit www.gshnj.org.
