Warren Township Dems Approve Party Platform

Party Platform Drives Upcoming Campaign

The Warren Township Democratic Committee formally adopted its party platform at its September 14, 2020, meeting. The platform outlines the priorities and policy goals of the local party establishment.

* We support a ballot initiative to allow residents to decide if they want to directly elect our mayor.

* We support fiscally responsible management of Township finances.

* We are calling on the Township Committee to provide greater transparency in a host of areas: better quality recording, streaming, and archiving of Township Committee meetings; posting of meeting agendas in a timely manner and include interpretive statement of ordinances being voted on: cessation of 7:30 AM meetings which are inconvenient for most residents.

* We are calling for a limit on mass development and a commitment to preserving open spaces.

* We are calling on the Township Committee to create a Diversity and Inclusion Council, to ensure that Warren is a welcoming community to all, regardless of race, religion, or gender or sexual orientation.

* We support a moratorium on all PILOT developments until the long-term economic impacts of these developer tax breaks can be assessed.

* We should identify and protect historic sites so we will not lose our history to development.

"Although no individual is going to agree with every plank of our platform, we are confident that our priorities reflect the views of a majority of Warren residents," says Patti O'Byrne, Chairwoman of the Warren Democratic Committee. "Our Township Committee candidates, Ilana Goldstein-Barsky and John Fahy, are committed to enacting the changes set forth in our platform, and we look forward to sharing and discussing this in the upcoming campaign."
