800 Watchung, Green Brook Residents Lose Power After Storm

WATCHUNG/GREEN BROOK, NJ — More than 800 residents in Watchung and Green Brook lost power Monday night following a severe thunderstorm.

A total of 540 Watchung residents and 312 Green Brook residents are without power, according to PSE&G as of 7:30 p.m.

About 1,500 residents in Bridgewater along with residents in Bound Brook, Franklin, Hillsborough, Somerville, South Bound Brook, and Warren also lost power.

PSE&G estimates power could be restored the earliest by 10 p.m. on Monday, July 22 or the latest by 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

The storms brought lightning, high winds, and heavy rain. Multiple roads also remain closed due to flooding.

Roads closures on Sunday night included: Route 22 from Rock Avenue to Washington Avenue and Greenbrook Road from Washington Avenue to the Fire House.

A flood watch is in effect for the area until Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday: Showers, mainly before 2 p.m. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 81. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers, mainly before 8 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. Light north wind. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 83. North wind around 6 mph.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 61. Light northwest wind.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 85.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 63.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 87.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64.
