Annual New Year's Day Dog Walk is Back at Lord Stirling Stable

Get out, and enjoy fresh air and your pet on New Year's Day.

Fido won't care that it's New Year's Day, and maybe you'll also be ready for a nice outdoors walk with your pet in the fresh air and woods by the time New Year's Day afternoon is here.

With that in mind, the Friends of Lord Stirling Stable again will host their annual New Year’s “Meet New Friends” Dog Walk between at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Check in time for this special event will be between 1 and 1:30 p.m., with the hour-long walk set to begin at 1:30 p.m.

The Dog Walk takes place along the equestrian trails — usually closed to walkers — at Lord Stirling Stable at 256 S. Maple Ave. in Basking Ridge. The stable is part of the Somerset County Park Commission and is open to all area residents.

Registration is $3 per dog, according to the park commission. All pets must be leashed and kept under control at all times. Humans are invited to participate free of charge.

The New Year’s Dog Walk will provide owners and pets an opportunity to walk off some of that holiday cheer on a tour of the beautiful trails at Lord Stirling Stable.  Start the year off right with old friends, new friends, and your best friends, according to the invitation from the Friends group, which supports the stable with fundraising activities throughout the year.

Food for animal shelter may be donated, regular dog walks continue

The Friends will gladly accept an unopened dry or canned puppy/dog or kitten/cat food for donation to the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter when you check in.

In addition, regularly scheduled Saturday Dog Walks will continue on Saturday, Jan. 4t, with check in time between 10 to 10:30 a.m.

The walk is scheduled to be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. For more information, call Martha at 973-635-8672, or visit the Friends of Lord Stirling Stable website at www.flssnj.org.
