Blizzard to Dump More Snow on Watchung, Green Brook

An alert says the state should expect "heaving snow and blowing snow with blizzard conditions" and 1 to 2 feet of snow accumulation.

Somerset County is under a Blizzard watch from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening, as more than a foot of “heavy blowing snow” is predicted to hit the state, the National Weather Service reports.

By Monday night, Somerset County could see 8 inches of new snow accumulation, with an additional three to five inches falling on Tuesday. According to the NWS, much of the state will see blizzard conditions and one to two feet of snow.

Winter Storm Juno is expected to bring winds moving from the north at speeds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Visibility will be one-quarter-mile or less at times. Temperatures will be in the lower 20s, according to the NWS.

“Extremely dangerous travel” is expected because of the heavy snowfall and strong winds, with whiteout conditions likely, according to the National Weather Service. Secondary and tertiary roads may become impassable.

Hillsborough Committeewoman Gloria McCauley and Mayor Doug Tomson also reminded local residents that public ordinances prohibit parking on snow covered roads. For more safety tips from local officials, click here.
