Environmental Education Center Announces Upcoming Events

Check out some of the upcoming events for kids and families at the Environmental Education Center for the week of June 15 through 21.

The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center has announced a series of events for the week of June 15 through June 21.

The Environmental Education Center, 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs for children and adults as the summer season begins making its way here.

Children and child/parent programs:

Beautiful Bugs Thursday, June 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Children ages infant to 5 with a parent will learn all about insects and where to find them, enjoying an insect hunt, making an insect craft and reading an insect story. Fee is $10 per pair & $5 per additional child.

Adult and family programs:

Birding at Negri-Nepote Wednesday, June 17 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Adult birders will explore the New Jersey Audubon grassland preserve on a search for American kestrels, Grasshopper sparrows, Eastern meadowlarks, Bobolink, Dickcissels, and more. Fee is $25 per adult and $20 per senior.

CAN-U-CANNU Sunday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to noon

Prepare for EEC river trips with an introductory class on basic paddling techniques, safety, and handling a canoe in and out of the water. Fee is $14 per person.

Family Nature Walk Sunday, June 21 from Noon to 1 p.m.

Family and friends will enjoy a Naturalist-led interpretive walk through the Great Swamp.

The program is free and pre-registration is not required.

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch Park in Bridgewater. The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
