Green Brook Fencer Finishes Fifth In Nationals
Recent Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child graduate of Green Brook Gillian Lawlor finished fifth at the USA Fencing National Championships.
GREEN BROOK, NJ — Recent Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child graduate from Green Brook and fencing standout Gillian Lawlor finished fifth in Division II Women’s Saber earlier this month at the USA Fencing National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Lawlor earned her fifth place finish among more than 120 competitors from throughout the country just weeks after her June 11 graduation from Oak Knoll this year. With the finish, Lawlor improved on her sixth place finish in the Division III Women’s Saber competition during last year’s nationals.
In May, Lawlor was among 300 fencers from throughout the country to be recognized in USA Fencing’s All-American honors. Lawlor was named a Second Team All-American.

Her final season at Oak Knoll was a noteworthy one in which she earned Tri-County Conference First Team Sabre honors. She led the sabre squad that finished fourth out of a field of 50 schools in the annual Santelli Tournament and qualified for the State Sabre Squads. In January, she along with Oak Knoll swimmer Lindsay Criqui was named Athlete of the Week by the Union County Conference.
In 2016, Lawlor was named All Union County Conference First Team in 2016 and earned MVP honors as a junior – the same year she was also a silver medalist in the New Jersey State Prep Championships.

This fall, Lawlor will attend Boston College where she will continue her fencing career.
