The Watchung Arts Center boosts creativity this Spring with virtual art classes. Registration is open for children, preteens & teens.

Children’s Drawing Enrichment Workshop Young artists working virtually will develop their natural ability, improve their skills and explore new techniques as they learn the fundamentals of Drawing. Students will use dry and wet media such as pencil, charcoal, oil and chalk pastels as well as watercolors while they discover sketching, shading and the use of perspective. Projects will include portraits, landscapes, abstracts and more! Different projects each session.

Children’s Painting Enrichment Workshop Virtual students will create realistic pieces and/ or will let their imaginations go as they explore this new technique using non-toxic acrylics on canvas boards. Young artists will produce colorful landscapes, abstractions and florals as they learn the basics of the traditional technique of painting and composition. Emphasis will be placed on the color wheel and on mixing a variety of colors. Different projects each session.

Ages 6-11

Thursdays 4:45pm – 6:15pm

Preteens & Teens Drawing & Painting Enrichment Workshop Students in the virtual class will explore drawing and painting techniques as well as the use of different materials to create representational and abstract projects. Participants will work with wet and dry media such as pencil, charcoal, oil or chalk pastels, watercolors as well acrylic on canvas boards. Classes are geared toward improving skills and developing artistic ability. If you have enjoyed the program in the past but you have aged out of it, here is your chance to return to foster your talent once again! Different projects each session.

Ages 12-17

Google Classroom trained and experienced in teaching Art remotely, Mrs. Otero has taught art at elementary and high school levels since 1991. She received a BA in Art from Rutgers University, Newark College of Arts and Sciences with a concentration in oil painting. She teaches Drawing and Painting classes at WAC, is the Director of the Summer Art Camp, and curates the Children’s Juried Art Exhibition each year. Mrs. Otero is also a tenured faculty member at Mother Seton Regional High School in Clark, NJ teaching 2-D and 3-D Design, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Drawing and Painting. As a professional artist, Mrs. Otero has shown her work in NYC and many venues throughout NJ. She is a member of AENJ (Art Educators of NJ) and the Contemporary Art Group where she serves on the Board of Directors.
